Diaper-Derailment

We finally had our first (of what assuredly will be many) diaper disasters. In the two weeks we have had Jack, we have changed his diaper somewhere between 100-150 times (approx 8-10 diapers daily). In our experience, Jack had never pulled what he did last Wednesday morning (around 4:00am) while stopped at a rest stop off I-81.

Since rest stops are disgusting and because it was about 36 degrees outside and a cozy 76 degrees inside our car, Shanny decided to climb into the back seat to change Jack's diaper. She grabbed the cute (but insufficient) changing pad out of her Vera Bradley diaper bag and placed it on her lap. She then proceeded to change Jack on her lap. Upon removing his dirty diaper and after cleaning him up--but before she could reach for a clean, dry diaper--Jack started to go, again.

First came #2--in an unprecedented, if not impressive, quantity--and then came #1 managing to squirt both of them in their faces. Of Course, Shanny was holding Jack's legs up when this occured, so #2 went either down his back and on his clothes or dropped to the changing pad. Meanwhile, #1 did what #1 does: it shot straight up.

To Shannon's credit, she quickly grabbed a clean diaper in an effort to minimize, well, the damage. Fortunately (for the car) Jack's productions were limited to himself and his mom; Vera Bradley changing pad was of course toast. I was cracking up in the front seat, Shannon was almost in tears in the backseat, and Jack seemed merely perlexed by the whole ordeal.

By the time we pulled out of the rest stop, we had burned 40 minutes, went through 3 diapers and an entire package of wipes, and left behind numerous soiled articles of clothing.

Awesome. You have just survived another initiation into the exclusive club called parenthood. I am glad you passed! We learned that we needed to have an obscene number of spare outfits with us at all times for our children. A diaper bag essentially becomes an additional suitcase to hold your little guys wardrobe. Cute pictures! Congratulations on the house, we missed you guys at my dad's house by about fifteen minutes on Halloween. We were all sad, especially my kids, that we didn't get to meet little double cousin.

I love it. Of course Nick laughs and Shannon deals with it. Don't worry Jack, Aunt Moof wouldn't have laughed either.
