We decided to start a tradition of sorts on Jack's birthday. Instead of the usual fanfare, we decided to do something educational on his 1st birthday. He will hate us for this later and will never want to do it again once he realizes that we are using his special day as an opportunity to educate him, so we thought that we would take advantage of his sweet nature now.
We headed of to Mount Vernon and bought 2 yearly passes. We are glad that we did because the lines were a bit too long and it gives us an excuse to come back.
We, like all good parents would do, bought him a ax (to cut down his cherry tree) a colonial hat and a colonial flag (with a very sharp tip to poke himself in the eye with) and let him crawl around on the grass (despite the "Stay Off the Grass" signs). We smiled and took pictures.

There is an area off the back of Martha's house that was a bit deserted (which I am sure had nothing to do with the signs that said "Employees Only" on the walkway) which had great picture taking appeal. We popped Jack up on the wall when the coast looked clear and started taking photos as fast as the shutter would move.

As you can see from the following photo, Jack let out a roar of excitement about his adventure and really seemed to like the new surroundings. Good thing we bought annual passes!
